Frequently Asked Questions
Following are some common questions people have prior to coming to the Catalyst Rehabilitation Program at Friendship Haven. We encourage you to take some time to review this information as it will help you make a successful transition to our program.
What Type of Clothing Should I Bring?
The simple answer is comfortable clothes. We suggest you bring clothes you typically wear at home. Remember, your recovery will involve various exercises, so comfortable and casual clothing is recommended. Your normal wardrobe is also recommended because learning new techniques for dressing and undressing yourself may be part of your therapy. Other items you'll want to pack include:
- Comfortable shoes for physical activities.
- Slippers/robe.
- Personal products (makeup, deodorant, shampoo, etc).
- Five to seven days of clothing. Laundry service is available.
- Do not bring medicine you are currently taking. Your regular medications will be provided by the Friendship Haven pharmacy.
What Type of Documents Will I Need To Bring?
All pertinent medical records will be transferred to the Catalyst Rehabilitation Program by your treating medical provider. However, the following documents will help assure you of prompt care:
- Medicare card.
- Private insurance card.
- Supplemental insurance card.
- VA Card.
- Long Term Care insurance information.
- Medicare Part D card.
- Medical and financial power of attorney.
- Living Will documents.
You'll also want to bring your personal address/phone book to keep in touch with relatives and friends during your stay with us.
Will I need to bring anything for my room?
Each Catalyst Rehabilitation Program room is furnished with a bed, table, dresser, clock and chair. Each room also has its own television and telephone. You may, however, want to bring a radio. Each room also has a space for you to display family photos, so bring a few to help keep you motivated during your stay with us.
Pursuing Your Passion
Although your days will be active with therapy, there will be time for you to enjoy your favorite past times. So if you enjoy reading, bring books. If you enjoy needlework, bring your yarn and needles. If you enjoy music, bring a CD player. Of course, you can also relax in our lounge where you will find a wide variety of games, a television and magazines. If you need some past time materials please let staff know and we can help you locate them.
Can I bring food from home?
Yes. You are more than welcome to bring your favorite snacks from home. However, please check with the nurse as some foods may need to be avoided due to the diet plan you may be on during the rehabilitation process. Keep in mind, Friendship Haven provides wonderful meals and snacks each day and can even provide for special requests.
Can I have visitors?
Yes. Visitors are more than welcome during your stay at the Catalyst Rehabilitation Program. However, remember recovery is your goal and focusing on your recovery is the key to returning to independence. Visitors are asked to allow you to participate during your recovery program. The staff can provide you with your daily therapy schedule so you can advise guests as to the best time for visits.
Will I need to bring any money?
Some clients bring a few dollars with them to purchase snacks and drinks from vending machines. Everything else you will need during your stay is provided by the Catalyst Rehabilitation Program.
How will my journey home be prepared?
You and your family will be encouraged to participate in an educational series called "Journeys, A Successful Passage Home." This program is designed to address practical concerns regarding a successful transition home. You will also have a social worker who will help you coordinate support services as you prepare to return home.
How can I continue my path to independence after "graduating" from the Catalyst Rehabilitation Program?
Once you have "graduated" from the Catalyst Rehabilitation Program, you will have three months of free access to the Wellness Center at Friendship Haven. This includes access to our exercise room, pool and wellness classes.
